Here is how to hang a mirror on the wall when it is brick or concrete: drill with a masonry bit, push in rawl plugs, and fix the mirror on at least two screws or a French cleat, never a single nail. Check for hidden wires and pipes first, and use a professional fitter for heavy or LED mirrors.
One thing to know up front: Decor Livings delivers mirrors only; we do not install them. Our wall-mounted mirrors come with mounting hardware in the box, and this guide explains the general safe practice so you, or the fitter you hire, can do the job properly. If in doubt, always call a fitter or electrician.
Mirror hanging hardware and tools you need
A drill with a masonry bit, ideally a hammer drill for brick and concrete
Rawl plugs (wall plugs) that match the drill bit size, and screws that match the plugs
A spirit level, a measuring tape and a pencil
A screwdriver and a small hammer to tap the plugs flush
A wire detector, if you have one, to check for hidden cables
Painter’s tape to mark the spot and stop the plaster chipping
A second person for anything larger than you can lift comfortably alone
Also use the hardware that comes with your mirror. If you are unsure what is in the box for a particular product, ask us on WhatsApp before you start.
Brick walls in Pakistani homes, not drywall
Most guides online talk about finding a “stud”, a wooden post inside a hollow drywall. Most houses and flats in Pakistan are built differently: walls are brick or concrete with a layer of plaster, so there is no stud to find. That is good news, because a solid brick wall holds a rawl plug firmly wherever you drill.
Drill through the plaster into the brick behind it. If the drill suddenly runs very easily, you may have hit a gap or soft mortar; move a little and try again.
Some newer flats and offices use gypsum board partitions. Knock on the wall: a hollow sound means a partition, and it needs special cavity anchors or a fitter’s advice.
Wiring runs inside the walls in conduit, usually straight up or down from switchboards and sockets. Never drill directly above or below a switchboard, and use a wire detector if you can.
In bathrooms and kitchens, stay clear of the lines to taps, the geyser and the washing machine.
Switch off the power at the main board if you have to drill anywhere near wiring.
Hooks, French cleats and clips
There are three common ways to fix a mirror, and the right one depends on its weight and back.
Hooks or screws with D-rings: two D-rings on the back of the mirror hang on two screws in the wall. Two points keep the mirror level and share the weight. Fine for light and medium mirrors.
French cleat (or Z-bar): two interlocking strips, one screwed to the wall and one to the mirror. The mirror drops onto the wall strip and the weight spreads across its whole length. The best choice for large, heavy mirrors.
Mirror clips: small brackets that grip the edge of a frameless mirror. Used for bathroom mirrors without a frame.
Avoid hanging any glass mirror from a single nail, a single hook or a picture wire alone. If that one point fails, the whole mirror comes down.
Mirror
Example
Suggested fixing
Light, small pieces
A set of small round mirrors
One rawl plug and screw per mirror, or the hardware supplied
Medium, one person can lift it
A single wall or vanity mirror
Two rawl plugs and screws, level, with D-rings or brackets
Heavy or large
A long wall mirror or a mirror with a shelf
French cleat or several fixings, two people, ideally a fitter
LED mirrors
Any backlit vanity mirror
The supplied hardware plus an electrician for the power
Ask us on WhatsApp for the mirror’s weight before you choose fixings, and use plugs and screws rated for it.
Use more fixing points, not bigger nails. A French cleat spreads the load best.
Hold the mirror in place while your helper checks it with a spirit level, then lower it onto the fixings gently.
Never put more on a shelf mirror’s shelf than it is meant to hold. The shelf weight limit for the Arched Luxe is not listed, so ask us on WhatsApp.
Do not hang a heavy mirror above a bed headboard or a sofa where people sit.
No-drill options
Renting, or not allowed to drill? You do not have to hang a mirror at all.
A floor-standing mirror simply leans against the wall. Most of our full length mirrors work this way.
The Gilded Arch Mirror (Rs 6,800) stands on its own built-in easel stand, so it does not even need a wall.
Adhesive strips and hooks are only for very small, light mirrors. We do not recommend them for glass mirrors of any real size, especially in humid bathrooms where the glue can weaken.
These are common design rules of thumb, not fixed laws. Adjust them to your family’s height. Once you know how to hang a mirror on the wall at the right height, mark the fixing points in pencil before you drill.
General wall mirror: put the centre of the mirror at roughly eye level for an average adult, about 145 to 155 cm from the floor.
Above a console or dresser: leave a gap of about a hand’s width between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the mirror, so they read as one piece.
Above a basin: keep the bottom edge clear of the tap and splash, and the top above the head of the tallest user.
Full length on the wall: keep the top edge a little above the tallest user’s head; our full length mirror size guide explains more.
A set of round mirrors: lay them out on the floor first, then copy the layout to the wall with painter’s tape before drilling. See our round mirror set layouts.
Wide mirrors like the Grand Gatsby Art Deco LED Mirror look best centred over a console or sideboard in the lounge or drawing room.
LED mirror cables
An LED mirror needs power as well as fixings, so plan both together.
All our LED mirrors run on standard household power. How each model connects, plug or wired, is confirmed with you on WhatsApp before you order.
Decide where the socket or connection point will be before you drill, so the cable is not stretched or pinched behind the glass.
Any wiring into the wall should be done by a qualified electrician, with the power switched off at the main board.
In a bathroom, keep the connection away from shower spray and the basin splash zone.
No. Decor Livings delivers only and does not install. Wall-mounted products come with mounting hardware, and you arrange your own fitter or electrician.
Can I hang a mirror on a brick wall without a stud?
Yes. Most Pakistani walls are brick or concrete, so there is no stud to find. Drill with a masonry bit, fit rawl plugs and fix the mirror on at least two screws.
Can I hang a heavy mirror on one nail?
No. A single nail or hook is a single point of failure. Use two or more fixings, or a French cleat for large mirrors, and get a second person to help.
How high should a mirror be hung?
A common rule is to put the centre at roughly eye level, about 145 to 155 cm from the floor. Above a console, leave about a hand’s width between the furniture and the mirror.
Can I hang a mirror without drilling?
Choose a floor-standing mirror that leans against the wall, or the Gilded Arch Mirror with its own easel stand. Adhesive strips are only for very small, light mirrors.
Who connects the power for an LED mirror?
A qualified electrician. Our LED mirrors run on standard household power, and we confirm how your model connects on WhatsApp before you order.
